Recently, life has been rough and I took a break from Facebook, IG, and promoting my blog. I wanted to take a moment to share what has been happening with me.
Depression is real. Anxiety is REAL. Sometimes in life, things don’t pan out the way you planned (and I'M A PLANNER ugh!😮😤) which can make you feel like you’ve failed or are less than. From the outside looking in, everyone assumes that I have it all together. I have a great job, amazing family, I travel frequently, all the while, I have been absolutely miserable, stressed to the max, and afraid of what was to come. I will share with you a couple of things I've implemented the last few months to get back to myself! 😊
1. Lay On Someone's Couch - Therapy.
One of my 30 before 30 items was to" lay on a couch" aka go to therapy but I just kept putting it off. Like what would I have to talk about? (I have PLENTY to talk about) Does my insurance even cover it? Am I going to be crying in these sessions? Blah Blah Blah...Reasons why I continued to push this OFF!!
In May, I found an amazing therapist that has really helped me navigate through the rough patch I was experiencing. In African American culture, it is quite taboo to go to a therapist. Many look at you crazy but I knew it was something I had put off for far too long! Therapy has provided me with a safe, judgment-free space to express my feelings and emotions while getting advice on how to rid myself of negativity to produce my best self! Sessions are an hour long and seem to go by far too quickly...The moment you're really in the throws of a story, it's time to END! 😑 But it has been such a necessary addition to my weekly routine! #TherapyWednesdays has really become a weekly/consistent release for me. Getting to talk about my stress from work and my personal life in a no judgment zone, is JUST what I needed at this stage in life! I've learned to not take on so much emotional drama and stress, how to say no, and how to put myself first! Therapy is really an under utilized tool!!
If you're experiencing hardships or struggles, stress, relationship drama, etc, give therapy a try! It's so worth it! If you don't know where to begin your search, email me! I'd love to help!
Next blog post will be about the second thing I've implemented, Self-Care!
Here's to being the BEST version of myself!!
Thanks for reading!
